Finding The Calm in The Storm

Fear is looking danger in the face and saying not today.
In a state of fear, you get to make irrational decisions because of the excess rush of adrenaline.

With the rise of social media, it has gotten easier to scare people, whether it is through blackmail or posting sensitive non-consensual information about people online. But in all these, what’s important is how you react to the first few moments because those moments are what would define the next few that are to come.

Recently I was in this situation, a situation of blackmail. This so-called person whom I have no idea is, somehow got private pictures of me and threatened to put them out there on the internet. The blackmailer’s power over me was the anticipation that I would respond in fear and make irrational decisions that would work in his favor.
I did not fall for this
Somewhere deep down even as my head swirled in frenzy, and as my breaths shortened and my fingers became numb, I was still able to send a voice note back. A voice note filled with authority, power, anger, and absoluteness., a voice note that clearly said “you don’t own me”. It took all the strength I had to send that message and after I did, I broke down in tears and cried my eyes out. These were tears of sadness, self-judgment, but overall tears of appreciation because I bossed up and handled the situation with a calm mind.

Dear reader, if you ever find yourself in a situation where someone has leverage over you, never dance to their tunes. Try as much as possible to show them you have power over them and their leverage. Never feel the situation would be the end of it all. I know sometimes it could feel as if your reputation, career, and future are on the line, but know that it is always darkest before dawn.
And this twilight too shall pass.
Till next time, think happy thoughts.
