New Apartment

I moved into a new apartment! Yayyy

Even though this sounded like something that happened quickly and swiftly, it did not.

Moving out of my old place to a new one happened after over a year of procrastination, terrible rainy season events, and even a life-threatening incident.

But I would not get into all that in this Medium. I would just be talking

about all the things you should know before moving into a new apartment while gently reminding you that the whole of adulting is one big ball of trials, errors, and a few do-overs. Let’s get into it now, shall we…

It Does Not Come Together So Quickly: Before moving, I already had this image in my head that my ideal room would be set in two days and I’d get to making and shooting content videos before I know it. If this is you and you have this idea, dead it. It would most likely take you 2 months to finally settle in and even longer or you’re lazy like I am because it took me 3 months before I finally put up my new curtains. So don’t rush into anything with expectations. Allow yourself to breathe.

You’d move things around a lot: Unless you’re using an interior decorator, you’d probably need to brace yourself up for moving your bed frame around a lot and note that this brisk adjustment does not come with a specific schedule. You might just wake up in the middle of the night at 2 am and decide boom it’s time to move my laundry basket to the edge of the room so my laundry does not look like a mini masquerade staring at you in the middle of the night. This happened to me by the way

Somebody’s Room Is Always Going To Be Better: Know this and know peace. Understand that this even applies to life, there’s always going to be someone better than you, and like someone who I know often says “the success of others does not mean you are failing”. So, if for some reason you decide to go visit your neighbor and you see that they have a chandelier in their room, say your hellos and go back to your LED-lit room. And as long as you’re not in darkness, be thankful.

It gets overwhelming: From moving to trying to put your house in order and at the same time trying to maintain sanity, you’d find yourself struggling to survive a breakdown. But take it from me, it gets easier but there’d always be those 3 am mornings where you’d either wake up to cry or just stare at the ceiling while the world grows quiet.

As much as it seems everything I just wrote about were a lot of negatives, there’s been some upsides to moving too. I got to meet new people, a total change of environment. And sometimes I decided to even assume a new identity with people I don’t want to stress me.

Essentially, I hope you’re equipped with all the necessary information you need to know before moving at the end of this Medium. Oh and before I forget the most important part, while all this is happening try to eat a lot because crying at 3 am is worse when you’re doing it on an empty stomach

And if it’s any consolation, it’s been four months already since I moved, and I still have not set up my workspace.

Till the next publication, think happy thoughts.
